Standard/Extended Accidental Damage

Standard accidental damage is cover for any accidental damage to visual or audio equipment, and drains, pipes, tanks and cables providing services to and from the property.  This should be included in any home insurance contract free of charge.

Extended Accidental damage includes soft furnishing and carpets, personal items, and DIY disasters etc..   It is slightly more expensive but it covers everything at the property, if you’ve accidentally damaged it – it’s covered!

Specified and Personal Possessions

You may have a particular item of value, for example a piece of jewellery that needs to be specified on your policy.  By specifying it, it is covered anywhere in the world, by not specifying it, it may not even be covered at home! Insurance companies have single article limits which vary, so it’s best that you let us know if you have any valuables.

Personal possessions cover is a more general add on, which covers your personal belongings anywhere in the world.  If you leave a mobile telephone on the train, or have your handbag stolen, you could claim.  This is not to cover a particular item, you simply choose a value, and the insurer will only pay out up to that value in any one claim.  For example if you have £1,000 for personal possessions, and loose you luggage at the airport – you could only claim up to £1000 in that claim total.  If you lost your suitcase and inside was an item which was specified – your specified item would be paid out separately.

Legal Expenses

This is not to be confused with Legal Liability.  Legal Expenses is for you personally, in case you feel the need to take up a legal suite against an individual or company – for example an employment tribunal.

24 hour Emergency Call Out

This is an add-on feature that means in the event of a burst water pipe, or smashed window for example – you can call out the insurer’s tradesmen free of charge to take care of things.  You can use it as much as you like throughout the year, and do not pay your insurance excess, claims on the emergency call out DO NOT result in a claim on the actual policy.
Each Insurer has a different financial allowance ranging from £150 to £500.  In some Cases Insurers do not include the central heating boiler, your advisor will detail the cover of the particular insurance company at the time of quote.

Type Of Property

Your property type influences how much you will pay for insurance, for instance a Detached House will cost more to insure than a Semi-Detached House as it poses a greater risk to the insurance company.

Number Of Bedrooms

Please select how many bedrooms your property has so we can determin if a 'bedroom rated policy' or a 'sum insured' policy is going to best suit your needs.

Property Post Code

This is the post code of the property you want to insure. It is more expensive to insure houses in certain post codes than others.

Approx Year Of Build

Please tell us the approximate year of build for the property. Older houses tend to cost more to insure than newer properties.
